3 Things I Do On Medium That I Really Shouldn’t
But I’m going to carry on…
There are some unwritten “rules” on this platform. In fact, some of them are written down (often in publication submission guidelines).
And some aren’t really rules as such, just what’s expected or what “general opinion” thinks is the best way.
And I go against them. And will likely continue to do so.
Let me open the doors of my closet so you can see the skeletons inside…
1. I Edit Already Published Stories
Oh, editors hate this one. What’s to stop you submitting a story, getting it published, then going back and changing it all completely? The answer is… nothing. Doesn’t mean it’s right though.
The thing is, wholesale change isn’t what I do.
I find myself re-reading stories I’ve recently published. It’s like I’m doing an extra proof-read after it’s out there. I always check articles over before I publish, but here’s the honest truth — often I miss something.
Proof-reading is hard to do to your own writing. You will miss errors in your blind spots (which is probably how they got there in the first place).
