A Christmas Day Medium Poem
If you’re a writer, you know…
Did you just check your stats on Christmas Day?
They won’t be moving now - put them away.
What about the little green bars of your life?
Go play with the kids, give a hug to your wife.
“But what if I’ve gone viral?” you say to yourself.
You’ve got more chance of fooling the elf on the shelf.
It’ll probably happen the day you don’t look,
so sit by the fire and pick up a book.
Even the big name players take a break:
Tim Denning has swapped the laptop for cake.
Sean Kernan has gone for a walk and a think,
while umair haque is off skating the rink.
Ayodeji Awosika is dancing to funk,
and Shannon Ashley is playing KerPlunk!
So if they’ve got their feet up, can’t you do the same too?
And for once remove Medium from the daily “to-do”.
Don’t open the laptop, do something exciting,
(Having fun might even improve your writing).
Views, reads and earnings do have their place.
But for now you and yours should be center space.
To all writers out there — the long, short and tall…
Merry Christmas to one. Merry Christmas to all.
(Thanks to the magic of scheduled publishing, I wrote this on Christmas Eve)
