If you check your stats daily (see how I was kind and put the word “if” in there… we all know it’s “when”), then you know the feeling. Every day the bar gets smaller. You’re on a downward trend.

And you can’t really work out why. You’re writing regularly, reading and commenting too — what’s gone wrong?

I’ve been there many times. In fact, I’m there right now. Here are 3 things to do that will help turn it around:

Back To The Future

Look over your past stats and find a month when you had forward momentum. What were you doing differently? There will be something.

The consistency you need to succeed on this platform can be a curse as well as a blessing.

That’s because when you’re reading and writing every day, you don’t notice the little patterns and habits that sneak in over the weeks and months — they’re not all necessarily helpful.

Perhaps you used to alternate between publications and self-publishing, but now you realise your work hasn’t appeared in a publication for a while?

On this platform, little decisions add up. Luck plays a big part, but you can put yourself in luck’s way.
