A Pro Sport Mindset Method That Translates To Life

If you don’t know what “working the channels” means, you’re not the only one. It’s a term used in football (soccer) but there’s no absolute definition.

It’s a phrase that goes through my head when facing a tough situation. It reminds me to keep plugging away at the basics.

Here’s the theory. As a striker in football, the defenders stick close to you. Your ideal is to escape them and run onto a forward pass for a shot on goal.

“Working the channels” maximises your chances. You systematically make runs into areas where you could get a pass, if your teammate spots you.

90% of the time you won’t get the pass, but you keep doing it for the 10%.

Seeking progress can be wearing, boring, and uninspiring at times. When it is, keep running the channels. The pass will come.
