A Simple Technique To Change Your Perspective
…and get out of a negative cycle
Do you remember being a kid at school and drawing on paper? You’d get part of a way through a drawing, change your mind, or feel that it wasn’t going well… and you’d scribble it out and start again.
I think we lose that ability to cut our losses as we get older.
As a result, we persevere down the wrong track for too long before changing it up.
But I’ve recently been reminded of a way to re-engage with that ability to hit pause, scribble through, and start again.
Life In Layers
I don’t think we realise just how much of our life is routine. The same clothes, food, tasks, journeys, even ways of relaxing.
Now I’m a big fan of routine — it’s a brilliant way to move toward your long-term goals a day at a time — but sometimes you need to think bigger picture and change things up.
If you picture your life in layers, then peeling back one layer — like altering your exercise routine, or picking different outfits to wear from the back of your wardrobe — doesn’t quite deliver the level of change you need (that is the equivalent of scribbling out the picture when you were a kid).
