A Thank You To Someone I Admire
On the occasion of their birthday
We all have people who shape us. Often we won’t realise until many years later just how crucial their input was to make us the people we are today.
In this article I would like to thank one such figure in my life and explain why I owe so much to them.
There will be someone in your life that you could write this article about. I encourage you to do it, and send it to them. That’s what I’ll be doing.
In West London, UK, there is someone turning 80 years old today. They’ve been decorated (given an award) by The Queen and served many organisations, churches and institutions in both professional and voluntary capacities.
But no gongs, titles or board positions can sum up the impact this person has had on the world, on me personally, and on many of my peers. Their gifts have been time, love and a good example to follow. And really, those are the most precious gifts.
They went to a school where there was a Christian society that they joined and immediately found a home. Not a bible-bashing members-only club, an “everyone welcome” place where the emphasis was fellowship. If you wanted to use that as a springboard to discover faith, that was up to you. No pressure.
