Competitiveness Is Like Fire
Powerful but dangerous
UK money expert Martin Lewis says this about debt:
“Debt is like fire. It is a powerful tool used right but use it wrong and you will get burned.”
Similarly, competitiveness — handled badly— can be destructive.
You can’t compete without comparing. But comparing is about the worst thing you can do for your mental health.
Have you noticed that The Startup publication is now Start it up? They’ve changed to reflect the shift from companies to solopreneurs. I’m one myself.
What’s the biggest thing I don’t miss about working in a company? The politics — people taking credit for your work, back-stabbing, cliques. A lot of it comes from misplaced, misused, and mishandled… competitiveness.
Trying to be the best you can be is one thing. Treading on others as you climb the ladder is another entirely.
