Don’t Just Take The Positives

Create them

If you fail, people may advise you to take the positives. You risk re-framing your experiences to the point where you miss learning opportunities.

It’s more pro-active to create new goals that wouldn’t have existed without the failure.

When I worked at a radio station I got asked to take over a show which had just been cut from three hours to one. Everyone on the team was dejected. I could tell other colleagues saw my move as a demotion (such was the dysfunction in that organisation).

I took it as a chance to re-invent the show, try out new ideas and a ‘free hit’ for fresh contributors. The show became a critical success and one I still talk about when pitching new podcasts.

Don’t just take the positives, create them.
