Don’t Say Sorry If You Don’t Mean It
“Sorry” is a word that we have cheapened through over-use. We use it to mean “Wait a minute” or “I don’t understand” or “I thought I’d got away with that” or “Don’t mind me” or “Get out of my way” or “That was an accident”.
Saying sorry is about honesty. Realising we have not treated someone in the way we ourselves would wish to be treated. And owning it.
When you call BS on a person or a situation, bad feeling results. There is an automatic instinct to apologise, but there are times we should resist it.
It’s OK to not be sorry. We should all reflect on our behaviour towards others. If we were wrong, we should say so.
But if we stand by our actions, then own them. Don’t say sorry if you don’t mean it.
