Episode 11 of The Nant Fawr Brews Podcast is Live
Finding good guests for any podcast can be a challenge. The last thing you want to do is book people for the sake of it, just to get another episode out there.
This is an important concept I discuss with my podcast clients for whom I make podcasts professionally. Quantity and quality have to be in balance.
Yes, regularity and volume of content is important, but if the quality dips then even the audience you already have may start to lose interest.
I’m on Episode 11 of my own little “just for fun” beer podcast now and I feel a little bit established. I love making this podcast and I enjoy trying to grow it too. I’m in it for the long haul so I don’t mind it being a slow burn.
With that in mind I’ve decided to aim to publish new episodes monthly. Regular enough to stay consistent and keep popping up in my subscribers’ feeds… but not so frequent that I have to scrabble around for guests.
I follow a lot of beery people on Twitter — brewers, beer writers, beer fans etc — and I thought it would be fun to message them when they posted something I thought would make a good subject for an interview.
It’s a numbers game. They don’t know me, so a fair few ignore my request, and that’s fine. I get it. They’re busy and they didn’t ask me to get in touch.
But a pleasing number of people reply and that’s exactly how I ended up speaking to the guest on this episode, Steve Dunkley.

This guy is a bit of a legend in the beer game here in the UK. He went from home-brewer to commercial brewer (and had his own taproom in Manchester — Beer Nouveau — for a while) and now he’s got out of being a venue owner and moved toward writing and, in a manner of speaking, beer activism.
He came up with an idea called Labels Off. It effectively gives a blueprint to any venue wanting to do a blind tasting…
