Get Yourself Roosevelt’d

When faced with opportunity, threat or indecision (or all three at the same time) our instincts tell us to ask for help. Talk to trusted friends.

I’m doing it now. The response has been incredible. Listen to your friends and help. One day you’ll need them to do the same for you.

One piece of advice has stuck in my head, like that weird monolith that someone put in the desert:

“Don’t listen to the fear. That little guy can back off.”

Be positive and brave. Spot on. It made me look up the quote “There is nothing to fear but fear itself.”

(Sorry, American readers, I’m from the UK so I didn’t automatically know it was FDR.)

The history of the quote is fascinating (one for a bigger article) but the lesson has never felt more apt. I’m taking it to heart.
