Glamour Is Wasted On The Glamorous

They tire of it, we desire it

Often we don’t enjoy what others see we have. Instead we only see the downsides. Conversely, we look at what others have and want it.

Earlier in my career, I went to the Cannes Film Festival twice. I remember being enthralled by the glamour. But my peek behind the curtain was instructive. Even in Cannes, the stars, publicists and film industry professionals were busy, stressed and — more than you would imagine — unhappy. I felt like stopping them and saying “Hey! Look where you are! Enjoy it!”

I’ve met big name stars who craved “normality”. I’ve worked with “normal” people who were desperate to achieve fame.

Change, by all means, but don’t waste what you can enjoy (and others would) in your current situation. Strive, by all means, but enjoy it when you get there. Appreciate your now.
