Hi Louise. I guess it could be that simple for some people, but it definitely isn’t for others. There’s debate over the Calories In Calories Out (CICO) approach you describe about whether it can deliver long term sustainable weight loss (and not just short term weight loss which will end up being regained). Also, I think people who have really struggled with weight loss for years due to a whole range of physical, mental and emotional reasons get a bit frusrated when people effectively say to them “Just eat less and move more, it’s simple”. I can see both sides. I like the simplicity of “eat less and move more” and I do think it works, but I think the mental side of weight loss gets dismissed (especially by people who have really had weight issues) and the thing is, if solving the obesity crisis really was as simple as “eat less, move more” then obesity rates wouldn’t be continuing to soar.
