I worked in a different part of the media for nearly 20 years, but a lot of this sounds worryingly familiar. There seems to be a pattern at big high profile organisations that some people (yes, mostly men, but not all) at the top get detached from reality, behave awfully and then eithet get promoted or covered up. I've rarely seen corporate culture done well, which is why I left it.
