Late At Night Is A Brilliant Time To Work
The perfect conditions for concentration
I used to find it very hard to get any work done in a day at the office. Most of my corporate career was spent in open plan offices. I look back now as that being a situation entirely unsuited to concentrating.
People walking through the office constantly. Meetings happening at the desks nearby. More socialising than actual work.
I remember it would get to other people’s home time (which should have been mine too) and I’d breathe a sigh of relief as I finally had a chance to focus and get something important done.
Now, as a solopreneur, I’m able to choose where and when and how I work. This, right here, right now, is my favourite.
Midnight. Total silence.
The street is quiet. The first-floor window my desk faces is in a bay. It’s like I’m sat in a control tower overlooking my street. I’m sure my neighbours think I’m mad for sitting here with the curtains open when it’s dark, but I like seeing the world.
Now it is motionless and pitch black.
My house is still. I’m the only person awake. Now my concentration is purely down to me. Only I can interrupt myself.
