Looking At Ourselves Could Be The Worst Thing We Do

Cameras and mirrors have massive power

Thousands of years ago, before cameras and mirrors existed, you might have only ever seen your reflection in a pond, and you’d have had to look down to see it (when you were probably more concerned about collecting water).

What use has it actually been to us to know what we look like?

I don’t know anyone who is totally happy with their appearance. We devote so much time, energy and angst into how we appear to ourselves and others.

I recently saw some pictures of myself (I try to avoid the camera where possible) and my mental health plummeted. And it is all the fault of a society obsessed by image.

We can’t go back to a world without cameras and mirrors, but boy would I love to…
