Make Room For Silence In Your Life
It’s harder to find but more valuable than ever
You’ll often hear people talk about wanting to “get away from the noise” when they’re referring to a busy period of their life, or a lot of opinions they haven’t asked for.
But I suggest we take that phrase literally.
Every day, spend some time some place where there is no noise. Nothing. If you’re inside, you’re looking for complete silence. If you’re outside then once the sounds of nature become the only thing you can hear, you’re good.
Here are three very good reasons to try this…
Pause
You know when two people are arguing, and the voices are getting louder, they’re talking at the same time, and the tension in the atmosphere is ratcheting up with every second?
Then someone with authority shouts “Enough!” And they stop.
That feeling in that moment. A hard stop. A release. A break. It’s golden. It’s like someone has opened up a big virtual plughole in the floor that allows all the tension to flow down and away.
The silence is a big part of the power of that moment. And that’s what you’re looking for — to harness that power.
