Months ago, when lockdown here in the UK was still in full effect, and the dark, rainy days seemed endless, two cricket matches got scheduled in my home city.

International teams, games on consecutive nights, a full ground, sunshine, friends, family — the vision was marvellous. But would they happen? It felt a million miles away.

I bought tickets for both, one to take family, one to take friends. I messaged them saying “I’ve bought these. If it happens, we’re going. Something to look forward to.”

Many twists and turns later, with rules changing constantly, my tickets are valid. It’s a greatly reduced crowd, socially distanced. It was first-come-first-served, and I bought early in hope (not expectation).

I can’t wait. And I’m already looking for my next speculative happiness investment. Be positive, look forward and hope for the best.
