Normal Is A Dangerous Word
“The new normal” / “When will things be back to normal?” / “Why can’t we just be normal?”
That word — normal. It’s everywhere.
I’d like to cancel it from the dictionary. Is that possible?
Everyone either thinks everyone else is it and they’re not.
Or they think everyone isn’t it and they are.
Neither are helpful.
We live our lives. We live them the best we can. What we end up being today is the output of an infinitely and gloriously jumbled mess of biology, history, culture, society, identity and just pure chance.
Let’s live today. And live it well.
As I heard an ex-pro footballer ex-addict say on a YouTube video I watched by chance last night (now there’s a jumbled mess of randomness):
“It doesn’t matter how rich or famous you are. There’s no tomorrow. Not for sure. There’s only today.”
