On reflection, I think there are two Mediums. One is the Medium that genuine readers find, which is the one in which pretty generic self help is popular and (to this platform's credit) you can find articles about absolutely anything. Then there is the writers universe Medium where people are writing to earn and falling over themselves to find - as you call it - the secret sauce. It's possible to have hits in either Medium, but they are very different beasts.
