People Have Opinions
Deal with it. Here’s one way.
A great technique for tricky situations at work (and life) is the unsent email. You write what you really feel— go for it, let rip, say all the things you couldn’t actually say, blame everyone but yourself.
Just one thing. Don’t send the email.
Save it somewhere safe and revisit it later. Then write the real email. Or have the real conversation. You’ve got rid of all the reactionary anger which is not useful and you’re left with insights to build a positive exchange around.
It’s good that people have opinions on you, your work, and your approach. It proves you moved the needle.
This “first burst” technique is useful in so many contexts, including creativity. It’s a human instinct to react. But get that initial reaction out of the way. Then take a deep breath, pause, and have another go.
