Sport Under Floodlights Is Just Cool

I’m easily pleased (by lighting in general)

Last night I took my kid to watch some cricket at our local international stadium.

(Yes, that’s how amazing it is to live in Cardiff, Wales — you have a choice of international sporting venues within a few hundred meters of each other)

As is often the case with a family outing (compared to life before kids) you don’t have the time to look forward to the event itself, you’re so pre-occupied with not forgetting anything and getting there on time.

We settled in, watched the first innings, and when we returned to our seats for the second innings… night had fallen.

Something about the bright floodlights against a jet black sky, a big crowd (in Covid times at least — it was about half full) and some of the best cricketers in the world going full pelt… it was exhilarating.

Lighting Makes All The Difference

Context, situation (and lighting) can add so much to our experience of life.

Think of the phrase “a romantic candelit dinner” — we all know the kind of scene that conjurs up. Well the lighting is so crucial to it that made it into the title of the event itself.
