Take Every Chance To Talk To People
A friendlier world starts with us
You can’t judge a book by its cover. It’s a cliché because it’s true.
In my younger single years, I remember being on holiday and in a nightclub in Malta. I persuaded my mate that we should go and introduce ourselves to a couple of girls who were definitely British. I could just tell.
They were German.
They didn’t speak English, we didn’t speak German. It was a fun evening anyway!
My point is this — don’t be put off talking to someone (and I don’t mean in a nightclub necessarily, I mean in life in general) just because you are projecting something on to them that they may not be.
Someone at work who is more senior than you who “seems scary”. A parent at the school gate who “looks defensive”. A neighbour putting the bins out at the same time who looks down and doesn’t smile.
If you take the easy option and don’t start a conversation you could be missing out on so much.
The senior person at work is probably intimidated by all the younger members of staff who they think consider them out of touch.
The parent at the school gate most likely thinks everyone else knows each other and it’s just them that are left out.
