The Double-Edged Sword Of Effort

Wield it responsibly

When life is crazy busy, it’s easy to fantasise about doing nothing at all. Lying on a beach, lolling on the sofa, propping up the bar.

Have you ever tried doing absolutely nothing?

Done right — meditation, reflection, sleep — it’s great. Done wrong — aimless vegging out, it actually gets you down more than being busy.

It works the same with effort.

Done right — efficiency, achievement, progress — it makes you feel alive. Done wrong — overwhelm, stress, over-committing — it make you feel useless.

So effort is a long heavy sword with two edges. One sharp edge cuts by making you feel overwhelmed. The other sharp edge cuts by making you feel vital.

I don’t subscribe to the grind mentality of 110% effort the whole time. Effort is a heavy, sharp, double-edged sword that should be wielded responsibly.
