The Most Annoying Habit in business
You will have done this, you’ve probably even done it today…
I used to think that the world of business would be something I’d never enter, let alone succeed in.
It seemed to clash with all my values — profit driven and dominated by competitive power-plays, style over substance and political manoeuvring.
But then I learnt that having a business essentially means having customers. And that a successful business solves its customers problems.
I like solving problems. I like finding creative ways to do things better. I like helping people.
Business can be done in a positive, sustainable, ethical and inclusive way. It doesn’t have to just be a dog-eat-dog race to the bottom where arrogant entitled white men in suits treat everyone like dirt.
But starting your own business is hard, and from Week 1 — Day 1 even — I came across what I consider to be the most annoying habit in the world of work, and it bugs me to this day.
I try to be the change I want to see, but even I am guilty of doing it sometimes.
I’m very lucky that it’s something my first ever customer didn't do…
