The Most Fun I’ve Had In Years
The immense positive power of trying something new
Our minds are so good at taking us down the path of least resistance. If we’ve done it before, our brain takes a shortcut to do it again, immediately ruling out millions of other options.
This is why you make a coffee every morning, in your favourite mug, without getting all the mugs out of the cupboard and weighing up the pros and cons of using every one of them.
This efficiency of thought and action is great for our routine lives (and don’t you dare think routine is negative, it’s a powerful life improver) but when we think about having fun, we just aren’t creative enough.
We think we need to do what we’ve always done, and that those ways are the only ways we can enjoy ourselves. A few days back I learnt for myself how much I had been missing out on…
The Usual, Please
“The usual, please” is something you might say to your regular bartender, in your favourite bar, sat on your regular stool.
The beer will be handed to you, it will taste good, just as it always does, and you’ll sigh happily as you stare at the same view, of the same street, with the same characters around you making the same old jokes.
