The Productivity Advice So Old We’ve Forgotten How Good It Is
Done right, it’s the key to work-life balance…
Productivity is about progress. Get the right things done and you move forward. Momentum is inevitable.
And the opposite is true, pick the wrong tasks to do, or don’t do the work (or both) and at best you stand still. More likely, you go backwards.
There are all kinds of brilliant productivity theories out there — the pomodoro technique, inbox zero, time-blocking — but recently I have come to rely on one that is as old as the hills.
It still works though. In fact, in the super-busy, hyper-distracting, more work-at-home world we live in, it works better than ever.
And I know who I learnt it from… my Mum.
The Wisdom Of Mother
My Mum is the most organised person I’ve ever known. It didn’t really rub off on me. As many lads in their teens and twenties still are, I could be all over the place at times. Though I always argued I could turn it on when necessary.
But, perhaps the engrained learning via example of my childhood is finally starting to seep out of my organisational pores now…
