There Are Only Two Ways To Get Happier
Most of us suck at one, the other, or both
I’ve just returned from an awesome holiday. Not long, just 3 nights and 3 days. Not far, just a couple of hours from home. Not expensive either.
But everything was different. 2 of us not 4 of us. Surrounded by nature not city. No plans instead of too many things to do.
I was happy from the moment we arrived until the moment we left.
Now, I’m not saying the answer to eternal happiness is just — go on vacation (although it’s a good start).
But, the experience of the trip itself, plus reflection on how we often approach our day-to-day busy lives, has led me to this conclusion:
If we’re not happy with our lives we can (and should) change them. But there are only 2 things to change:
1 — our context
2 — our reaction to our context
Let me explain…
Our Context
Holidays work because they take us out of our regular context and put us in a brand new shiny one. Instant change.
You wake up in the suburb of a city with your busy and stressful life clawing away at you.
