Things Can Change Very Quickly
Try saying “Yes”
We often have a negative bias towards things happening at speed. We prefer to plan, to know what we are doing. But sometimes, an opportunity arises and you have to say “Yes”.
If you’re struggling with adapting quickly, use a quick technique to change your mindset in the moment. Flip the perspective 180 degrees.
When bad news happens quickly — someone at work is ill and we have to find cover, a travel delay means we miss an appointment — we adjust instantly, we have no choice.
So why can’t we do the same when something unexpected, that needs a quick decision, but, crucially… is positive… happens?
A lot is said about living in the moment, but a balanced approach works. Respect the past, be hopeful about the future and respond, as openly and as positively as you can, when things change quickly.
