Two Simple Lessons In One Morning

What is it about being human that means we have to be reminded of simple truths time and again?

History reveals layers and contradictions. Take wars — we should have discarded them for good by now. Unfortunately, that lesson remains.

And yet lessons such as basic medical and hygiene practices, we don’t need to be taught repeatedly.

In our day-to-day lives, we don’t re-learn how to make coffee each morning. So why have I had to re-learn two vital life lessons in the last half an hour?

Katie O'Grady taught me to be kind to people and treat them as I would wish to be treated.

J.R. Flaherty taught me to start living life right now, instead of “when x happens.”

As long as I need to re-learn, I’m glad there are people here to teach me.
