What If Medium Turns The Money Off?

Would you still write?

This article by Lisa Beth Wright saddens me. If non big-name writers who write interesting things feel this platform is no longer for them, it’s worrying.

Money was part of the reason I joined Medium, I won’t lie. I thought — I can write, why not earn extra money doing something I enjoy?

I spent a few months following “the rules” (to build followers, increase reads, increase earnings) but then questioned it. I don’t want writing to become a factory production line.

Now, I write for me. I love the expression of a daily self-published short-form piece and I started a publication to track an important personal project. Any money (less than $20 a month, folks) is a bonus.

So, what do you write for? There’s no right or wrong answer, but it’s worth asking the question.
