Why 50 Claps Is My Default

Be generous. Encourage. Respect.

How you clap on Medium is a personal decision. It took me a while to work out you could award a limitless amount — 50 per article, over and over.

Then Bjorn Sorensen blew my mind (and his own) with the discovery that if you just hold down the clap button, it keeps going (you don’t have to click 50 times, people).

50 claps is my default for an article I read, and 10 for a comment.

Why? Be the change you want to see.

I want Medium to be positive and encouraging. If you took the time to write an article, I respect that. To write and get nothing back is tough. My 50 claps says “Thanks for writing this. I read it. All of it.”

And 10 for comments? No idea. Entirely random. We all have our quirks.
