Why I Entered Every Category Of The Medium Writers Challenge

And a few reasons you may want to as well…

I’m interested to see the output, reaction and after-effects of the Medium Writers Challenge. I’ve seen opinions on both sides of the argument as to whether writers will be taking part or not.

If you want to take part, there’s only a couple of days left to publish.

Me? I’m in.

First things first — writing prompts are great. They give you a starting point, a brief and some key notes to hit.

I particularly like it when big publications give a specific writing prompt because it gives us writers, for once, a chance of figuring out what they really want.

General submission guidelines on the big publications can come across as more about what they don’t want, which it makes it trickier to know the exact marks they want hit.

The four writing prompts for the Medium Writers Challenge were, I thought, good. Not completely predictable, yet they hit on some big contemporary topics, or at least gave you a way into them.

Here are 3 reasons I embraced the challenge:
