Why I Haven’t Written in a while

(It’s not what you think…)

My best friend writes books. Lots of them. He’s published over 100 and shows no signs of slowing down. I remember him saying this to me:

“I don’t write because I want to… I write because I have to.”

For him, expression through words is a physical need. Some people need to exercise each morning, others to speak to their parents every day… and there are those that are compelled to smoke or drink.

He has to write.

And for a while, here on Medium I felt exactly the same drive. But that hasn’t been the case recently. Let me explain…

Seasons Come… And Seasons Go

When I discovered this platform, in August 2020, in the peak of the pandemic, it made so much sense to me.

Here was a social media (ish) platform where I wouldn’t have to keep up with the Joneses or do what people expected of me. Nobody knew me. But there was an audience out there.

I could write about whatever I wanted. Great for me. Just like my best friend I was writing because I had to. It helped me.

The bonus was that my words could help others as well. And the miraculous double bonus was, thanks to the…
