Why Turn Everything Into A Competition?

Just quietly do your best

It’s bonus time on this platform, and frankly, it brings the worst out in people. There’s two main camps — the braggers (“anyone else planning a spa weekend?” is a quote that stuck in my head) and the complainers.

Does any of it do anyone any good? It doesn’t reflect well on the writers and it doesn’t help the readers.

If you got a bonus, congratulations, enjoy it. If you didn’t, here’s something I’ve worked out — it’s not all about the money on here.

Write because you want to. Because you have something to say. Or, as my author friend told me years ago:

“I write because I have to. It just comes out. I don’t really have a choice.”

Be happy for others’ success. Don’t brag, don’t complain, don’t worry. Quietly do your best. Keep writing.
