Yes, Lisa, I agree. I don't think consumerist society helps. We all want more. And often that means people want to compete. For the best jobs. The nicest houses. The hottest boyfriend or girlfriend. It's hard to be truly empathetic when you are trying to beat someone else and be "the best" or "a success". Such a shame because true community and friendship fills us with happiness like nothing else.
